Your Past & Passing Judgement

Your past–if you are true to yourself and have come to accept what you cannot change, you are at peace with it. You acknowledge it, have learned a lesson or two from it, may share it and even make a difference in other people’s lives because of it.
But there is still a problem with it. The problem is the people, the people who aren’t accepting of it, critical of you and pass judgment because of your past. They have uninformed opinions and speak carelessly because of their pride, insensitivity and lack of understanding, of human frailty, and the power of forgiveness and mercy that is instantly given to us when we pray for forgiveness and the grace to do better.
Nevertheless, what is important to remember is that this type of behavior is not about you and it is definitely not your problem. It’s the problem of those who can’t see and get past it.
So to you with the past— the teenage parent, divorcée, drug dealer, adulterer, stripper, liar, deceiver, prisoner, child neglecter, conspirator and substance abuser — please maintain your esteem and hold true to your worth and value. You are a special gem that shines brightly. Be careful to not let anyone dim your light and dull your sparkle.
Be grateful for the lessons you learned because of your past. Stand firm and grounded in your values. Be unshakable and do not fall prey to those who are judgmental. And finally, forget what lies behind you and reach forward to what lies ahead for you. Your future looks bright so go get it!
