Your Year In Review with Five Easy Questions

Tirza Motivates - Your Year In Review with Five Easy Questions

In most work environments employees are evaluated on their performance during a yearly review. This type of review is intended to help the employee reflect on their…

  • successes,
  • obstacles to success,
  • training & coaching necessary to work more effectively, and
  • performance and development goals for the coming year

For generations, this same practice has been used as a core exercise for personal development and goal setting. It is an especially important and sophisticated strategy during this time of the year.

The philosopher and poet George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

I want to help you avoid any repeats that prevented you from achieving that important dream or goal. I also want you to be extremely successful at what matters most to you next year.

I want you to reach the pinnacle of every goal you put your eyes on and your mind to. Why not! Heck, you deserve that.

Scheduling time to evaluate how far you’ve come to achieving a dream and the goals you set for yourself, will give you insight into what goals to pursue and the actions to take in the coming year.

So, I have an assignment for you.

Step 1:
Before next Friday, make some time for you, time alone where it is quiet- away from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, screaming kids, a demanding boss, dirty dishes, and any other distraction. You will need a few tools like a notepad and pen or your smartphone/computer.

Step 2:
During your “me” time perform a yearly review. By answering some questions you’ll assess your performance goals in terms of what you achieved this year and what you want and need to achieve next year.

Here are five questions to answer during your yearly review about both your personal and professional life.

  1. What went well this year?
  2. What did not go well this year?
  3. What do I regret?
  4. What lessons did I learn?
  5. What am I most proud of?

Two other questions you should consider include:

  1. If the coming year was my last on Earth, what would I change? Why?
  2. If I was given all the time, money and resources I needed to accomplish my deepest held dream  this year, I would begin __________________ (fill in the blank)

Step 3:
Step away from your answers and reflect over the course of the following week. I want you to pay attention to your emotional state. What about your answers trigger the most emotion?  It is in those emotions that dwell your truth about what is important to you, exciting or frustrating to you.

Quick Tip:
What is getting you excited, mad as heck, or deemed critically important is the very thing you should be setting new dreams and goals around.

So, what’s next? Well, it is time to get to work and develop your dream and goal strategy.

Wondering how? I have an amazing opportunity I’ll be announcing next week! One that will meet you where you are at this moment and take you where you want to go, and arrive at this time next year!

Stay tuned and keep reading!
