Boast Confidently: A Request to ALL Women

I am in a very fortunate position. Almost every day I have the opportunity to work with amazing, talented, intelligent, accomplished, as well as beautiful women. Who are either experiencing a career transition. Or entering the business world for the first time.

These women have the potential to reach professional success and achieve the goals they set for themselves. If only they learn how to do one thing well… boast confidently.

Many professional women are challenged by the task of talking about themselves positively. Though this is an ability for professional branding, securing employment, career advancement, and effective negotiation.

I truly believe women must have a voice and be courageous enough to “toot their horn”.

Why? Because women have the right to boast, brag, and also tell their story.

Women deserve to be recognized for who they are and what they can contribute.

The world is also going to deny women if they don’t speak up.

Also, women will be in danger of being overlooked.

And women won’t get their due.

I am talking about the need for women to embrace their worth by communicating their value. And promoting all of their wonderfulness with sophistication, power, and authority.

Yet, as terrific as this sounds and in all its glory of truth. The idea of boasting about oneself could possibly be the most uncomfortable and absurd experience ever!

The act of boasting is perceived as taboo, inappropriate and void of modesty.

Unfortunately, many women walk in this false belief. And are painfully fearful of judgment and the vulnerability they subject themselves to.

In many cultures and among different generations modesty is the preferred way to go.

Some of us growing up were told to keep quiet and often not allowed to have a voice. If we dared try, the consequences could be distressing.

Low self-esteem, lack of identity and self-awareness are also to blame.

The less astute a woman is, the less likely she will embrace all of who she is. And dig deep to discover things about herself to boast. But women–we shall overcome! I’m seeing those very ladies I described above bloom like tulips in the spring.

With continuous effort, and undergoing a serious, sometimes difficult and joyful self-refection process, women begin to feel more comfortable boasting.

The confidence develops over time with every new opportunity to boast. The fear of vulnerability and the taboo of boasting diminish and become less relevant.

These women are owning their power, finding their authentic voice and sharing their experiences in a more confident, clear, controlled, and concise way.

And so here is my request to the Wise Women, Queens of the Castle, Mothers to the Future and Ladies Leading in the Board Room — please rise to the occasion and let them (whoever “they” may be) know who you are, what you do, why you matter and why you deserve to have a seat at the table. Now go forth and Boast Confidently!
